UMW

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Joining this group of committed women is a unique opportunity—no matter who you are or where in your life you are at this moment—to move in harmony with other women who have been responding to this Purpose since 1869.

Circles of Love

A circle is ongoing and never ending. A circle comes in many sizes, and the United Methodist Women are unique in our unity and diversity. Our connective structure encompasses the work of over one million United Methodist Women around the world. Our basic guides are the Bible, the Book of Discipline, Social Principles, Policy Statements from the Women's Division, and our Handbooks.

The UMW Unit of First United Methodist Church has four Circles. Each circle meets once a month. The Unit meets quarterly.

  • Circle I – Meets 4th Monday each month at 2:00 pm.
UMW Circle I supports the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School. Circle I is collecting UPC codes from Campbell products, used ink cartridges and small cell phones.

Campbell no longer requires the front label for this program, but the UPC code from their thousands of products is valid. This includes items with the name Campbell, V8, Pepperidge Farm, Swanson & Prego! A full list is available at www.labelsforeducation.com or from the church office.

From computer ink jet and laser printers to copiers and fax machines, used ink cartridges can be redeemed for cash. Recycling is not only good for the school but good for our environment. Every cartridge that is remanufactured is a cartridge that does not end up in our country's landfills.

The money earned from this program is used to purchase computer equipment, software, and other items needed for the classrooms and student programs such as band, art, and choir.
  • Circle II – Meets 4th Tuesday each month at 10:00 am in the church parlor.
  • Inez Crain Circle – Meets 2nd Tuesday each month at 7:00 pm
  • Susanna Wesley Circle – Meets 1st Thursday each month at 6:30 pm.
