For April, we’d like to pay special attention to our members in the military. Please make a special effort this month to send cards and/or care packages to John, Chris or Billy.
Make sure your mail reaches our troops:
Use the service member’s full name.
Include the unit and APO/FPO.
Include a return address.
The cost of Military Mail postage is the same as domestic postage. A 41-cent First-Class Mail stamp will also deliver a letter to a service member halfway around the world.
There are certain factors to consider when sending packages to our troops overseas. To make sure package contents arrive in good shape, take these into consideration:
Extreme Temperatures: Desert temperatures are currently 90 degrees.
The Box: Select a strong box with room for cushioning. On recycled boxes, cover all previous labels and markings with a heavy black marker or adhesive labels.
Cushioning: Cushion contents with Styrofoam or bubble wrap to keep items from shifting.
Batteries: Battery powered items will sometimes get turned on during shipment. Remove and wrap the batteries separately.
Sealing: Tape the opening of the box and reinforce all seams with 2 inch wide tape. Use clear or brown packaging tape, reinforced packing tape or paper tape.
Custom Form 2906: Must be completed.
For your convenience, the church office does have a small supply of APO Flat Rate Mail boxes on hand, the Post Office has supplies or you can go to www.usps.com and request a Military Care Package Kit to be sent to you at home.
