Youth Minister

Job Description

To support Brandon First United Methodist Church’s (BFUMC) mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and to vision, plan and implement the Ministry Action Plan designed to deepen and grow the faith of students grades 6-12th.

  • Maturing: Embraces the teaching of scripture while growing in love for God and others (Matt. 22:36-40).

  • Unity: Being one with the mission of Jesus and those on mission with you (Ephesians 4:1-16).

  • Integrity: Fulfills roles and responsibilities to the best of one’s ability and for the glory of God (Colossians 3:23-24).

  • Passion: Called and passionate about ministry; engaged in the work of ministry with enthusiasm (Romans 12:11).

  • Humility: Teachable and desires to grow (1 Peter 5:5).

  • Servant Leader: Must approach ministry and others as a servant leader and be a versatile team player (Mark 10:45).

  • Lead the Youth Ministry team and meet to carry out the Ministry Action Plan towards established goals.

  • Build and maintain healthy relationships with students and create environments that help them to become like Christ.

  • Recruit, equip, and lead volunteers called to serve within Youth Ministry.

  • Identify and provide opportunities for students to grow in servant leadership.

  • Plan, coordinate, and maintain with the Youth Ministry team regularly scheduled opportunities and special events for students to grow spiritually.

  • Build relationships with parents to encourage spiritual growth for the entire family.

  • Assist and collaborate with other ministry areas to enhance BFUMC’s mission and vision.

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in successfully leading a church’s student/youth ministry.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with leadership training and practice. Preferred – Master’s level training with degree.

  • Knowledge of the Scriptures and an ability to teach and/or apply them in large and small group settings.
